Even though they are no longer official representatives of the British Crown, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to reside in the public eye despite Megxit. In their latest portraits with Time magazine, there was a familiar royal accessory that graced the Duchess’s wrist.
Meghan Markle & Princess Diana’s Cartier Watch

In a rare portrait of the Sussexes for a special episode of Time100 Talks, we can spot a special nod to Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana. Meghan seemed to be wearing the iconic gold Cartier Tank Française watch, which Harry’s mom loved and was seen sporting at numerous events. No one really knows how Princess Diana got the watch, but it’s known that it was previously owned by Prince William, who apparently gave it to his younger brother Harry. Meghan wearing the gold Cartier may be a sign of appreciation for the royal family or a subtle nod at the mother-in-law she never actually met.

Meghan Is a Fan of the Tank Watch Too
In an interview back in 2015, long before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, the former actress told Hello that she’s always been a fan of the Cartier French Tank watch. In fact, when she found out that Suits (the series that rose her to fame) was picked up for a third season, she decided to celebrate that milestone by purchasing the two-tone version of the watch. She even had it engraved on the back with a sweet message: “To M.M. from M.M.” to make it extra special. Meghan even said she would love to give it to her daughter one day.

Since the portrait for Time is a black and white one, it’s difficult to say whether the watch is the two-tone or the gold version. However, Meghan was seen sporting the gold one at an event in the past, which is why people speculate it’s Diana’s watch.
