Movie fans would go to great lengths to lobby for sequels of their favorite shows and movies. Turns out, no such hassle would be necessary for Notting Hill fans as Hugh Grant would gladly do a second part. His reasoning, however, is rather… unexpected. In a Q&A session for his new HBO show, he shared the weird reason he’d agree to do a sequel of the beloved 90s romantic comedy.

The 1999 romantic comedy has become a staple of romance and happy endings for many lovers of the genre. The tale of William Thacker, a book store owner (played by Hugh Grant), and Anna Scott, a famous Hollywood actress (played by Julia Roberts), and their unlikely affair will always stay dear to our hearts. And, while the movie left them at a pretty good place (spoiler alert), Hugh Grant would actually like to see what happens after those last credits.

In a recent interview for his latest HBO miniseries, The Undoing, Grant opened up about his parts in rom coms, joking that he’d gladly do a sequel to one of them but only to prove that happy endings are a ‘terrible lie.’ He’d like to do a sequel that shows what happened to his and Julia’s characters in Notting Hill. Maybe they went through a really expensive divorce, and their children were involved in the whole drama. Hugh would be more than up for that kind of film!

Despite his early days in romantic comedies and more light-hearted roles, Hugh Grant has recently turned to darker, more intense parts. He says he actually enjoys playing the villain for a change, which is the case with The Undoing, as well as some of his previous work in Paddington 2 and A Very British Scandal.

You can catch Grant’s captivating performance in The Undoing on HBO. PS: Nicole Kidman’s in it too!
